A Basic Explanation on the Basic Golf Swing

I’m sure you’ve caught yourself doing this at one time or another, swinging as hard as you can at the ball with all your might in the basic golf swing in hopes that the ball would just sore out into the fairway. If so then you understand why that golf swing doesn’t work so well. Realistically consider yourself lucky if you made contact with the ball at all, how ever if you did chances are the ball didn’t go where you had intended it to.

While it does take strength to hit a golf ball a good distance strength is not the secret key to the problem. One of the first rules of basic golf and a beginners golf swing is to not try and over power it, let the club do the work concentrate on good form and mechanics. Hitting that ball with all your might is best left for a ball park rather then a golf course.

Hitting the ball with the basic golf swing is more physics than strength.

If you are a beginner golfer then you’ll notice looking inside a bag of clubs reveals a different club for different distances. Each club in a set is made to handle a particular distance and job, choosing the correct club for the shot is a important aid in the basic golf swing for any level of golfer.

Once you master choosing the right club for the job, and learning to control that club you can then start to work towards using more power in that basic swing. A key clarification that should be made is that power and strength don’t always mean the same thing in golf. When you take a swing at the ball a smaller person can have all the power a body builder has behind their swing.

Positioning your body and addressing the ball is a second important part of the basic golf swing. Knowing where to have your feet placed so that your club will connect with the ball at the right angle and right time is the key to getting the most out of each club.

So how do you master the basic golf swing? Very few if any walk out onto the course first time and swing and sail the ball 200 yards, the majority of us have to work at it. Practice makes perfect, practice choosing the correct club for each distance, practice with your swing mechanics, and not stopping. If you’re new starting out it’s ideal to consider hiring an instructor or investing in some instructional material to learn technique right the first time. Once you have the right way then just practice practice practice.
