Golf Swing Mechanics Make or Break your Game

If you’re like most amateur golfers you’re probably willing to do what ever it takes to put more power behind your golf swing. A common question that comes up to instructors is where exactly does the power in our golf swing come from? There are three main components that contribute to power: golf swing mechanics, strength, and equipment.

So where should you be starting if you want to lengthen your drive or improve the consistency of each golf swing? Golf swing mechanics is the best place to start. Why? Well no surprise golf equipment can improve the distance you hit the ball how ever if you can’t hit a lesser club based on your strength and swing mechanics then why bother spending more money on a better club. Golf strength is how well you are conditioned to swing a golf club at max power. While there is little argument that superior equipment can make up for short comings in your technique it’s ideal that you improve your swing mechanics as a foundation to improving your game.

While admitting that equipment and technological advances can lengthen the distance of your drives, it should be kept in mind that without better golf swing mechanics and without getting your body in better golf shape, new technology can do little to help your game. A bad swing can only produce a bad result, no matter what kind of new driver you may have just purchased.

Any golfer that has at least a season under his or her belt knows the important role that golf swing mechanics play in hitting a nice straight drive or dropping it on the green with that flop shop. In fact good swing mechanics are a must to really improve your game. Coming over the top or to much on the inside of the ball with each swing almost always means a slice, hook, or at worse a duffed ball. If you’ve experienced a drive that was popped in the air, to far right or left, or didn’t even leave the tee box then you know what I’m talking about.

Working on golf swing mechanics consistently is a key to improving your game. This is apparent in all the top players in the world who each have a swing coach to work everyday on their swing mechanics. A golf swing is such an exact finely tuned procedure it’s something that you can always work to improve on.

Amateurs often make the mistake of ignoring the availability of golf instruction.

What’s the largest mistake that amateurs (such as myself) make when it comes to golf swing mechanics? Ignoring professional instruction and available lessons. Without learning the proper way for us to swing only allows us to create a habit of slicing, hooking or topping the ball. Of course this leads to frustration, high scores, and bad rounds. If you’re serious about improving your game then the best investment you can make isn’t in another bucket of balls at the driving range but rather quality instruction to learn the correct golf swing mechanics.
