Golf Game Mental Tip

While golf on the surface appears as a game of wits and strength, to those that have spent any time playing the game they know that there is more mental aspect to it then anything else. You can read golf tips until your blue in the face about how to address the ball, correct swing technique and everything else. Realistically what you need is a quality golf game mental tip to reduce your handicap and play better rounds.

If you ever have the chance to speak with a PGA professional, or even a local club pro that plays a good golf game they’ll surely tell you how important the mental portion of the game is. Now this isn’t to discount that you need to learn correct swing technique, understand how to aim, and which club to choose but when it really comes down to it without the right mental tips for your golf game you’ll come up short every time (no pun intended of course).

Simple Golf Game Mental Tip

A mental golf tip that you can practice when you’re not on the course is this. We all pay a lot of attention to our swing mechanics when we’re at the driving range or on the practice green. How ever, how often have you ever just concentrated on where you’re shot is going? What exactly do I mean, well here it is an easy golf game mental tip. Next time you hit the driving range choose a spot out on the range where you want to land the ball. Pick a simulated green, or even an odd colored patch of grass. Now think about hitting that spot, don’t concentrate on your back swing, pivot or anything else. Let your body go through a natural movement and concentrate on hitting that spot.

Often times one of the biggest weaknesses we experience in the game of golf is we try to hard. Literally we think so much about the swing and shot at hand that we take the fun out of it and often times over think it.

The mental aspect of water and sand

Now we’re not talking about relaxing on the beach, we actually mean how we react mentally to sand traps and water on the course. Without fail on one of the regular courses I play I put a ball in the water on a particular hole. I can’t not see the water when I’m taking my shot, all I can think of is that there is a water hazard right in front of the tee box on number 7, and while maybe not every golf game I play a large percentage of tee shots I’m hitting 3 off the tee.

Another strong golf game mental tip is to see and visualize the shot you want and need to make. Don’t see the water hazard up ahead. We can easily sike ourselves out from making the shot we need to make by focusing to much on the hazards at hand.

The key to all of this is to remember that we can accomplish a lot with a simple golf game mental tip. Don’t under estimate how much of this game is mental and how much is technique.
