Golf Betting Odds – Byron Nelson Championship Top Ten

by golfer on May 22, 2010

This week’s PGA Tour Event, the Byron Nelson Championship, is a wide-open field and finding value on golfers to finish in the Top 10 in the golf odds  really isn’t that difficult to do.

Every golfer listed in the golf sportsbook is going off at fair value to finish in the Top 10 save for Hunter Mahan and Ben Crane.

Byron Nelson Championship Top Ten

Where: TPC Four Seasons Resort, Irving, Texas

When: May 20th thru May 23rd

TV: Golf Channel – May 20th 3:00 pm EST 1st Round
Golf Channel – May 21st 8:30 pm EST 2nd Round
CBS – May 22nd 3:00 pm EST 3rd Round
CBS – May 23rd 3:00 pm EST 4th Round

Best Golf Bet A: Rory Sabbatini +300

Those are excellent golf odds on the 2009 Byron Nelson Championship winner. Yes, Sabbatini has finished in the Top 10 only once in 2010, but that’s okay because he knows TPC Four Seasons very well and, really, that’s the key this week. There isn’t a golfer in the field that is that much better than anybody else. Sabbatini should turn it around enough this week for a Top 10 Finish. Another sneaky wager would be to take Sabbatini as the top finisher in the ‘rest of the world category’ at +400 odds.

Best Golf Bet B: Rickie Fowler +450

He’s finished in the Top 10 in two of the last three tournaments he’s played. That makes him a tough guy not to bet on to finish in the Top 10 this weekend. Fowler is also ranked 10th on the PGA Tour in ball striking. That’s another reason to like him.

Worst Golf Wager: Hunter Mahan +120 and Ben Crane +150

I have nothing against either Mahan or Crane in this category, but I can’t get myself to bet on a golfer at less than +200 to finish in the Top 10 at the Byron Nelson Championship. Every golfer listed in the sportsbook has a shot at getting into the Top 10. That means I have to go for the golfers going off at fair odds.

Now, taking both Mahan (+700) and Crane (+1000) with a little action to be the top American finishers is more my style, and the odds here back up putting money on both.

Best Underdog Golf Bet: Scott McCarron +900

He’s only made the cut in two out of his last seven tournaments played. That’s freaking awful, but – and this is the kicker – one of the cuts he made turned into a tied 7th and he did finish tied for 4th with a total 265 in last year’s Byron Nelson Championship. Nine to one? Gotta love those odds! And, even a $10 bet on McCarron to be the top American would pay out $450. I can deal with that, too!

Others to Consider

Dustin Johnson +200 – - My pick to win the Byron Nelson Championship should finish in the Top 10 with ease this week. He qualifies at my two to one or higher level as well.

Y.E. Yang +250 – - This is the type of tournament where Yang’s ability can really shine through, like when he finished 3rd in the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Carl Pettersson +450 – - Has made the cut at seven consecutive tournaments and is ranked 5th in birdies or better on par 4’s.

Spencer Levin +650 – - Finished 9th at TPC San Antonio and has five Top 25 finishes in 2010.
